jamesbot

hi there, I’m jamesbot

If you already know who I am, chances are you’ve seen me on the official Rocket League Championship Series broadcast. Thanks for visiting my site! If you’re curious, here’s a bit more about me :)

My name is James Villar, though online I go by the name “Jamesbot”. I’m married to my beautiful wife Katie, and have a small fluffy white dog named Hamilton as well as a young son named Calvin. I enjoy learning about computers and technology, as well as organizing and producing professional esports events. As long as I can remember I’ve been a gamer.

The first console I fell in love with was the SEGA Genesis, which my siblings and I received as a Christmas present on year. I would spend endless hours playing Rock n’ Roll Racing, Toejam & Earl, Sonic 1 through 3D Blast, Zombies At My Neighbors, Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Footbrawl & many more which I won’t bore you with naming. Eventually we got a Nintendo 64, Playstation, GameCube & Dreamcast. It truly was an epic time to be alive.

However, I really started getting into “esports” after I saved up to purchase the best gaming system in history, the original Xbox. I cut my teeth on Xbox Live titles such as Ghost Recon, Conker Live & Reloaded, Rainbow Six and of course…Halo. The Halo games blew my mind, and that’s what I looked forward to playing every day after school. One of my proudest achievements was getting level 50 in the MLG playlist in Halo 3.

In my high school years, I was able to get a gaming computer, which was a turning point in my gaming path. I started playing World of Warcraft, and got lost for many moons in the land of Azeroth. Perhaps my greatest gaming accomplishment is obtaining the legendary Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros on my Ret Paladin on the server Akama back in the Vanilla days (though I owe Zaros for that feat, which is another story altogether!).

Before I get lost, please allow me to fast forward. I got my degree from GVSU in Marketing & Management, and put that to use at a wonderful company called Steelcase. I worked on their Technology Product Development team, and it was an amazing experience! While working professionally, I was still gaming. I loved making videos and streaming, and was a volunteer in a few different community groups.

When Rocket League came out, I immediately began competing & volunteering, and was fortunate enough to meet Blake “CloudFuel” Tull. Long story short, Twitch partnered with Psyonix to run their pro league, and Twitch brought me, Cloud, and others on board. The rest is history.

The present day, however, has changed quite a bit. I left Twitch in 2019 to go full-time Rocket League and move back to Michigan. In 2022 I built my humble esports facility (with massive help from my buddy Doyle), and just this past year I purchased a commercial building to aid in my esports projects. I hope to run more events like Gold Rush, Turf Wars & SOLOQ in the coming months.

If you made it this far, wow, you’re crazy. Thanks for taking the time! If you ever wanna chat, my DMs on twitter are open, and if you can find me on discord I respond there as well! Have a blessed day :)
